You look around for any sign of a talking flower...
**that sounds familiar doesn't it?**
You find one a couple minutes later, lazily looking around. You wave at it and ask if they would be willing to give you directions to find some herbs
"Oh sure, hun, sure," it nods, "It's just that, well, I'm very hungry and haven't find anything tonight. I think that stupid Debra is hoarding all of the good snacks and I can't find her unless I find something. Would you be willing to spare some of your snacks?"
[[Yeah I have a snack]]
[[No, I need the supplies]]You bash the door to your cell open. You hear the surprised shouts of villagers above. You only have a minute at max to spare, and you plan to spend every second of it getting out of here.
Making your way through the dungeons, you stumble upon what looks to be an equiment room. Most of it is weapons, but there is a collection of trinkets, herbs, and a small opened box.
Looking inside the box, you find a journal. Your curiousity gets the better of you and you peek inside. It looked to be a log of some kind but most of the descriptions sound... familiar. You make it to the most recent log and everything makes sense. This was planned. They knew you were coming in hopes of ingredients because they were stalking you. The last line was just the confirmation you needed to know what they want...
"They will make fine soup,"
You close the journal and put it back in its place. You pick up your spellbook and start to flip through it, deciding what spell you'll use to get out of this place. You fall on two options.
[[Fireball]]
[[Flight]]Wow you are... **a stubborn player arent you?**
ill be honest, player i havent quite figured out this part of the story yet. you know i wanted to focus on the mushroom village and then work on the other path and the one you missed and uh... right the story.
You cast a whimisical spell, one of crackling energy, hoping to hit the Flytrap before it can do anything to do harm to you and...
you know what player... why don't you decide this?
**does the witch succeed?**
[[Yes]]
[[No]]You shrug, and send a fireball at the pot in the middle. It boils and shakes until it eventually explodes. The crowd scatters, shouting in fear of getting touched by the poisoned stew.
In the chaos you run. You grab a mushroom or two along the way but not enough. That's okay, you'll be back next full moon...
If you make it, that is.
Ending 2A of 13: You were just trying to survive
Try a new route? [[Eat the soup]]
Try again? [[The Beginning]]No? Seriously? Come on, player, they're adorable! Won't you just try one bite?
[[Eat the soup]]
[[I know what happens when I eat it]]You shrug. Who doesn't like soup? The mushroom people are delighted to have you try their soup. You see their beady eyes sparkle with joy. You notice that none of them are eating the soup but you chalk it up to their stubborn kindness.
They stare at you as you eat the bowl of soup.
"Well? Do you like it?" the mayor asks you.
You nod and the mayor smiles.
You suddenly feel a bit dizzy. You realize just what is happening and try to get out of the village. One step, and your vision goes black.
[[The Dungeon]]Well you're here. Might as well see it through. Worst comes to worse, it'll just kill you. You make it to the area in question, spellbook already out of your bag. As you flip through it, you hear heavy footsteps. You look up to see the plant-like construct staring you down.
Without a second to waste, you cast your first spell.
[[Fire]]
[[Thunder]]Huh... okay. Sure, **whatever, player.**
You travel for what seems like forever. Through the trenches and overgrown vines and roots, it seems like an endless void of nature.
Eventually, with little to no energy left. You stumble upon a cave. You decided this is the perfect chance to rest your wobbly legs. But as you enter it, you stop dead in your tracks.
A giant venus flytrap stands between you and a door.
Well no going back now. Do you sneak around it, or attack it headon?
[[Sneak around it]]
[[Cast a Spell]]Fire blasts from your hand. The construct steps back in surprise. You put a wall of flames between you and the construct. With another flick of your hand, you teleport behind it.
You cast another spell, hoping to take it out without too much of a hassle.
[[Fire Again]]
[[Vines]]You send out another fireball hoping to see it burn up in flames. The construct was expecting it and moved to the side. It collided with the nearby trees. You watch as the fire spreads through the forest. The construct just stares at you. It looks unsure.
You don't waste any time pondering it. You run away, watching as branches begin to fall from its homes as red orange and yellow hues consume it.
You truly find out the fate of the Grove later on as you still the burned char of what remains of it from the village.
The fire will spread through the woods and will hit the village. All you can really do is warn and avoid.
Ending 11 of 13: Cerifited Arsonist
Try a different route? [[Fight]]
Try again?[[The Beginning]]You'll need a way to get out *and* defend yourself. Who cares if a few mushrooms get burned along the way? Two mushrooms shout at you as you run past them. You cast a wall of fire between you and the two mushrooms as you make it out of the dungeons.
You are greeted by a group of mushrooms, fear in their eyes as they see you in a ball of fire in your hand. The mayor steps forward, stubby little hands raised in surrender.
"Witch please! Don't burn our village down! We're sorry! We only wanted to have our annual feast!"
You hadn't thought about burning their village done but the idea strikes you. They did try to wrong you... multiple times...
[[Cast it]]
[[Leave]]Right, it might be too dangerous. The plant said it had been here since the last full moon. It could be strong enough to take you out and many other people.
You pout as you realize you'll have to travel back empty handed. There's always the next full moon.
If you make it back home and survive long enough for the full moon to come around again. You hope the plant-like monster will be gone by then so you don't have to face it.
Ending 12 of 13: Coward... you were so close.
Try Again?
[[Fight]]
[[The Beginning]]Right. Again: No need for extreme violence. You cast it quickly and fly out of the dungeon. The villagers, both enraged and surprised by your magic and efforts, try to chase you. But you are too high in the air and able to get away.
As you fly away back to your hut, one thought comes to mind.
**You won't make it until the next moon.**
Ending 4 of 13: Escaped... for now
Try a new route? [[Eat the soup]]
Try again? [[The Beginning]]Sadly, in the time I was talking to you, dear player, the Witch got lost in the Flower Grove.
Surrounded by a bundle of vines, flowers, roots, and trees. You are surprised that none of the more sentinent flowers have talked to you yet. Then again, last time you were here on the full moon, they were sleepy because they were hungry and were actively looking for food to consume.
You could try asking one of them for directions or you can just figure it out yourself and hope you can find what you came here for.
[[Ask for Directions]]
[[Figure it Out]]Right. Stay calm. Stick to your guns. Grab your spellbook, and get out. No need for extreme means of violence.
You flip through your spell book, deciding what spell you'll use to get out of this place. You fall on two options.
[[Fireball]]
[[Flight]]Without thinking, you grab the sword and hold it tight. You step outside of the room. While you are in there they had noticed you got out of your cell. They can't get a word in before you slice them in two. You then sliced another... and another... and another...
Bloodlust fills you as you continue to make your way out of the dungeon. As you make it to the top, you see the villagers look at you in fear.
[[Slaughter]]
[[Leave them be]]You nod. You shouldn't have to spend all of this glory for yourself. You are all trying to make a living after all.
You give your findings to the many struggling villagers. You got so caught up in trying to find ingredients you forgot how nice it feels to do good.
You spend the next month traveling into the woods, finding treasure from the various places and giving it to. You give you things in return and eventually more people start to come with you to find things for the village.
By the next full moon, the kingdom finds out about what you have been doing. They question you but despite how much you explain the good it is doing, the monarchy and its council are not having it.
You don't make it to the morning. The village is saddened by this but continue traveling into the woods in your honor.
...guess the kingdom doesn't like gifting. **good to know.**
Ending 9 of 13: Robin Hood Witch
Try a different path? [[Flower Grove]]
Try again? [[The Beginning]]...fine. I get it. No, really, I get it.
You don't want that adventure. Some players don't like this particular kind of story. You know, you trust some cute creatures, you get kidnapped by them, and eventually you escape and either take revenge or go back home safe and sound.
But if there is one thing you should know about these stories...
[[you should never reject a gift]]You pick up the strange contraption, flipping it over to examine it. You could try to make some good potions or treats out of this, but without knowing its full potential, it's hard to know what you can do. You shrug, stuffing it into your bag and going back to your home., making sure to also grab herbs and
Something to research for the next full moon.
Ending ? of 13: [[The Beginning]]
[[Wait that's it?]]
Finders keepers, they always said. The village seems to understand.
You spend some of the money to improve some of the broken things in your home. The rest? Improving yourself.
You didn't need the ingredinents. You needed *money*. Something that could change this mundune
It isn't until a week or so later when you're killed in your sleep that you realize that the mindset you achieved was all wrong
**what? nothing happy lasts forever. plus i hate rich people.**
Ending 8 of 13: Greedy Little Witch
Try again? [[The Beginning]]The spell seizes and without another word, you walk away. The villagers let you, ashamed and scared. As you walk out of the village, you give a handful of mushrooms from the ground.
You would go to the Flower Grove but your tired from the adventure you had...
Oh well. At least it's something. You just hope it'll be enough to last you until next moon. But you know it wont.
Ending 3 of 13: Almost the Final Straw
Try a new route? [[Eat the soup]]
Try again? [[The Beginning]]Sorry player...
**this particular story youre not in control of.**
[[Slaughter]]You decide to head to the Mushroom Village first. Hopefully they won't be too stubborn this time around. At least it wasn't food.
[[Mushroom Village]]The smell of stew fills your nose as you walk into the swampy village. Small mushroom-like humanoids are running around preparing for some kind of event. Fun banners, streamers, flags and posters decorated the usually dull village.
The mushroom mayor approches you, seeing that you had arrived not too long ago.
"Hooray! The Witch is here! You're just in time for our annual fest! Come and sit with us and eat our fine soup!"
...damn it. You knew they would offer you food sooner rather than later.
Well... do you eat it?
[[Eat the soup]]
[[Don't Eat]]**...okay. Whatever.**
The crackling seizes. You are exhausted from traveling through the grove with no one to assist you...
The last thing you see before you pass out is the jaws of the giant venus flytrap.
You do not wake back up.
Ending 6 of 13: Should've said yes
Try a different path? [[Flower Grove]]
Try again? [[The Beginning]]"No?" it tlits its head, "Very well. I'll just haev to settle for you then,"
You turn around and run, hearing the plant snarl from behind. Before long, it catches up to you, hunger fueling its adrenline. You trip on one of the overgrown roots and fall to the ground.
Then, silence. By the time morning comes, all that is left of you is your spellbook. A corner of it glistens with acid.
Ending 10 of 13: Delicious Snack
Try Again?
[[Yeah I have a snack]]
[[The Beginning]]Well... Not what I expected. I mean if you did the other path, you'd *have* to be curious of this path right?
Or this is your first time playing through this and actively choose to go this path because you think this will give you some kind of cool true ending.
Ha. Hahaha... **ugh**. Moving on. Where was I? Ah yes.
[[Flower Grove]]The sounds of screams fills your ears as instinct takes over. The whole thing only takes a couple of minutes, but for you, it's only a matter of seconds.
You smile and start to collect the mushrooms. And not just the ones from the ground.
You'll have plenty of mushrooms to use for years to come.
Ending 2B of 13: You were just trying to survive...
Try a new route? [[Eat the soup]]
Try again? [[The Beginning]]Cue the Pink Panther music... this witch is doing some sneaking.
Sorry, sorry couldn't help myself.
You sneak out of your cell fairly easily. You'd think with how devious these creatures are, they'd have highter security.
You look around for your spellbook. Next to it, you find a very very sharp sword. Perfect for cutting up mushrooms.
[[Get Spellbook]]
[[Get Weapon]]Sneaky witch once again... or it's the first time you're being sneaky.
One step. One slow step. Then another. And another.
You managed to make it past the hungry flytrap and into the next room.
And you stumbled upon...
Oh. *Oh!* Treasure! Gold! Shiny things! What fun! Never thought it would be here.
Your eyes shine with excitement. But before you take stuff, you ponder. Should you take all of this, or leave some for the flytrap?
[[Take it all]]
[[Take some]]Right, right. You should take it all. With this, you can buy as many ingredients as you want instead of scavange for them every full moon!
You gather all of it, stuffing most of it into a bag you conjured using your magic. Some of it goes into your pockets.
As you walk out of the room, your pockets jingle with all of the coins you put in there...
*Uh oh*
The flytrap growls in anger, turns around to face you and strikes.
A coin bounces off of the ground, its sounds echoing in the air before all noise stops...
Forever.
Ending 6 of 12: Killed by your own greed
Just [[Take some]]?
Try again? [[The Beginning]]Right. Only taking some can help you avoid getting caught by the flytrap as you go out.
You take what you can carry. You can always come back and take it little by little. Still it is a hefty amount of money you got. You make it back to the village safe and sound. The village surrounding your home is curious why you came back late in the day rather than late in the night.
You explain to them that you got lost in the Grove and found some treasure. They are amazed and one of them asks if you would be willing to spare some
[[Gift it]]
[[Keep it]]You are a witch. It's the night of the full moon. Hostile creatures lurk in the shadow of the woods. You would stay inside and sleep the night away. But you ran out of some essential ingredients that you may not be able to get if it weren't for the bright glowing plant in the sky.
Continue to [[The Woods]]hiiiiii Max here. Or jester depending if you know on the internet or in real life.
Yes I am human. I am just very small.
Thanks for playing my interactive adventure! I hope you enjoyed it. This was for a college assignment and I think I had more fun figuring out each ending and its story branches than actually writing this. I'd love to do more of these and make bigger and better interactive media.
If you are very confused by the story, I do apologize. I made this with the intent of it being open to interpretation as I'm a big fan of people making theories off of my works.
Is the witch the player?
Will the deity let the witch go?
Does the witch live to live in the time loop or eventually lose their marbles?
Who knows that's for you to decide!
If you're my professor or my classmate, hi! Good to see you! Hopefully you enjoyed this and I hope I didn't embarass myself too much with this considering I have to see y'all after Spring Break. :D
Did you get all 13 endings? If so (or if not), which one was your favorite? Let me know!
Anyways hope you have a wonderful day! Stay hydrated! Bye bye!
- Max/jesterYou have no idea how much time has passed when you wake back up. You *do* know that when you wake up, you are in a dark, damp dungeon.
Cliche I know, bare with me.
Whatever those villagers want from you, it can't be good. You need to get out and fast.
You dig into your bag and immediately you know one thing:
Your spellbook is missing. Great, wonderful, what fun.
You have to get it back before you escape the village for good. You see two ways:
Brute force your own way though relying on your quick instincts, running through the halls of the dungeon and dodging any villagers.
Oooorrrrr you could sneak around, avoiding any irrational thinking and listening to your logic.
Well... what method do you use to get your spellbook back?
[[Brute Force]]
[[Sneak]]You come to a crossroads. There are two paths, one heading to the left and one heading to the right. You know you have to go down both paths at some point tonight, it's just a matter of what path to go down first.
There are two signs at the head at the crossroads. The sign pointing left says "Mushroom Village," the sign pointing right says "Flower Grove,"
You know you have to get mushrooms, but the creatures living there are stubborn. Getting flowers and herbs are also essential, but not as essential as the mushrooms. Besides, the more sentinent plants can be quite cunning.
Which path do you go down?
[[Left, to Mushroom Village]]
[[Right, to Flower Grove]]You grab your bag and your spellbook and start heading down the path into the woods. The trees arch over the moon, leaving its vibrant light to shine through the holes of the branches.
There is a calm energy to it all, at least to you. Other woodland creatures scatter and hide out of fear of what lurks in the shadows.
You tread on, heading to [[The Paths]].Sparks fly from your hands. With a crackle of light, it shoots out into the construct. It steps back in surprise. With another flick of your hand, you teleport behind it.
You cast another spell, hoping to take it out without too much of a hassle.
[[Vines]]
[[Fire Again]]With another flick of your hands, vines shoot out from under it. It wraps around the construct. You close your hand, the vines grow tight. With another push, the construct bursts into dust.
The vines disappear and in the place of the construct, lies a... bright blue orb?
[[Ingredient Get!]]You pull out a small bag of trail mix and offer it to the flower. It smiles and chomps it in one bite.
"Thank you. I feel much better already!" it then points to a nearby path, "There are some bushes and roots full of many different herbs that way. But be careful. There is a monster lurking around that area. It's been there since the last full moon,"
You ask what the monster looks like and it explains that it looks to be a mass plant-like construct.
You could use fire magic on it but you could risk burning down the rest of the grove.
You wave farewell to the plant and make your way towards the area it pointed out to you. It takes you a bit to get there which leaves you time to ponder.
Do you actually want to fight this thing for the herbs? It seems dangerous and with you wandering around so much, who knows if you'll have enough energy to fight it unharmed.
[[Fight]]
[[Flee]]**...ugh. fine.**
The spell shoots off in a ray of lightening. It strikes the venus flytrap square in the back of the head. It withers away in a cloud of dust.
You manage to find the ingredients you want in the area and get out before the other flowers find out what you did.
You'll get the mushrooms another full moon... **maybe. i dont know you tell me.**
Ending 5 of 13: ...good job
Try a different path? [[Flower Grove]]
Try again? [[The Beginning]]
**...and don't come back my overworldly creativity can't take this. >:(**The villagers surround you, angered by your rejection. You try to grab your spellbook, only for your pockets to be empty. Before long, you are overwhelmed by them.
You'll make some fine food for them.
Ending 1 of 13: Don't tread from the story, you fourth wall breaker. >:(
Try [[Eat the soup]]?
Try again? [[The Beginning]]Yeah I'm with you there. Don't get me wrong. I love happy endings but this just seems... off you know?
There are so many different outcomes for you. You can get killed by mushroom people or eaten by plants. You could become the village's hero for getting them out of poverty or get murdered by them. Hell, you could break the fourth wall and get killed by mushroom people again!
I didn't write this one. It kind of just... appeared.
[[Who are you?]]
[[Appeared?]]A deity of sorts. I weave stories for you and whoever else is playing. I created this world for people to play because I got bored for writing the same stories **over and over** again.
A story with drama, jazz hands, magic, and death. But every time I create a new path for you, something pops up. Something changes everytime you play. Sure it's a set path, and I repeat the same dialogue over and over, but it changes. It feels.. different.
Even I lose control of the story and just let the characters do their thing. That's why all of these are bad endings.
I can't be the only one right?
[[Well what can we do?]]Yeah, surprise! I didn't write this. Something changed **again!**
That one branch I didn't write I just let you write it in hopes to see if something happened. It didn't though, because it's not your story. It's **my** story.
[[Who are you?]]
[[Well what can we do?]]I think it's obvious isn't it?
**I think you should leave.**
Get out of this weird paradox time loop thing before something changes that affects not just the characters, but you as well.
[[But what about this ending?]]...I guess you deserve something for making it all the way through this one happy ending.
Just the one.
Farewell friend. I'd say I hope to see you again but honestly? For the character's sake?
I hope you don't.
True Ending: [[The Beginning?]]
Don't try again... [[The Beginning]]
